The Iranian government has announced that hijab enforcement groups will be established on the Tehran metro and women who do not wear the hijab will be denied entry. This is part of a broader effort by the government to encourage public bodies to enforce the hijab rules.
Many Iranian women, especially those in urban areas, have refused to comply with the hijab rules, in a continuation of the “women, life, freedom” protests that began in September. Meanwhile, a series of poison attacks on secondary schools in Tehran and other cities have been reported, with at least nine schools targeted on Sunday. The perpetrators have yet to be identified.
