Devastating Storms in Italy - Lots of Victims

The northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna has experienced devastating storms that resulted in severe flooding and landslides, leading to the deaths of eight people and the evacuation of thousands from their homes. The heavy rainfall caused 21 rivers to overflow, submerging entire towns and leaving people stranded on the rooftops of their houses.

Among the victims were an elderly man and a couple who owned an agriculture company. Additionally, a German woman's body was found on a beach, although it is unclear if her death is directly linked to the storms. Several others are reported as missing.

The impact of the storms has been significant, prompting the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix scheduled for the weekend. The president of Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, expressed condolences for the victims and those still missing.

Italy's civil protection agency has warned that the situation could worsen, as the rainfall is expected to continue for several more hours. They described the situation as "very, very complicated." Efforts are underway to provide assistance and support to affected individuals and communities in Emilia-Romagna.
